Conor Oberst and co. return with their first Bright Eyes LP since 2020. Self-produced by the band, Five Dice, All Threes hears the indie folk trio revisit formative influences and earlier material, re-adopting the on-the-spot songwriting approach of their early 2000s releases. Embracing first takes and spontaneous decision making, the band’s direction was influenced by relistening to classic indie and alt rock records by the likes of the Frank Black, Pixies and The Replacements, acts who initially inspired them to start up the band. There are plenty of surprises to be heard too, with psychedelic, jazz, chamber pop, and outlaw country numbers scattered about the LP, and Cat Power and The National’s Matt Berninger making guest appearances.
