Out 28/04/23
JFDR – the musical project of Icelandic singer, songwriter, composer and multi-instrumentalist, Jófríður Ákadóttir – announces her new album ‘Museum’ out on Houndstooth 28th April 2023.
Museum is a timeless monument to captured moments. Its nine tracks sculpt fleeting instants of experience into emotional objects, her voice a glowing aura in a mist of glittering gossamer synths and delicate instrumentation.
The nine tracks move between opener (and first single) 'The Orchid's beautifully unfurling melodies and through the subtle percussions on 'Life Man', which propel the song upwards to soar like spring breezes. Tracks like 'Air Unfolding' gather hope in whorls of piano and synths, alongside instrumental breathers such as 'Flower Bridge' whose sympathetic textures shivers with the metallic sound of Icelandic Langspil – a traditional Icelandic string instrument.
As a 14-year-old in Reykjavik, Ákadóttir began her musical career, exploring the vast universe of experimental music while retaining a massive heart at her core. Over the past 12 years, Ákadóttir has released 12 records, including as a member of Pascal Pinon & Samaris, collaborated with renowned artists Ólafur Arnalds and
Damien Rice, scored the award-winning Icelandic film Backyard Village, and garnered fans across the world – including Björk, who cites Ákadóttir as an inspiration.
