The ‘Companion’ series of short collections of re-recorded songs and covers corresponding to each of Conor Oberst’s Bright Eyes albums reaches 2005’s ‘I’m Wide Awake, It’s Morning’, which was a warm, folky contrast to the simultaneously released ‘Digital Ash In A Digital Urn’, a colder and more detached effort. Oberst mirrors the approaches taken back then on these re-workings, approaching the ‘I’m Wide Awake…’ songs in the pristine, alienated style of its twin.
